60 years of Sound of Music

An exiting campaign for the most well known movie about my home town.

The most famous places from the movie

I recently had the incredible opportunity to be part of a special campaign celebrating the 60th anniversary of the iconic film, The Sound of Music. The city of Salzburg, where the beloved movie was filmed, provided the perfect backdrop for this creative journey. Armed with my camera and a sense of adventure, I set out on my bike to capture the magic of the film’s most iconic locations.

From the vibrant blooms of Mirabell Gardens to the historic grandeur of the Hohensalzburg Fortress, and the serene beauty of the Basilica in Mondsee and Wolfgangsee, each location told a piece of the story that’s become a part of Salzburg’s cultural soul. What struck me most was how these places, even six decades later, still carry the unmistakable charm and emotional resonance that made The Sound of Music so timeless.

Teaming up with a Salzburg Illustrator Clemens Birsak, who illustrated the movie scenes on top of my photographs was just wonderful.

As I cycled between locations, I wasn’t just retracing scenes—I was trying to capture how these spaces feel today. The goal was to create imagery that honored the legacy of the film while reflecting the quiet beauty and atmosphere of Salzburg in the present moment.
